EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON GLOBAL WATER RESOURCES: A CRITICAL REVIEW
Keywords:
Climate Change, Water Resources, Water Scarcity, Hydrological Cycle, Adaptation StrategiesAbstract
Climate change is rapidly altering the global hydrological cycle, impacting water resources in various ways. This article critically reviews the literature on the effects of climate change on global water resources, focusing on how shifts in temperature, precipitation patterns, and extreme weather events influence the availability, distribution, and quality of water. We examine the impact on both freshwater and groundwater systems, particularly in regions highly dependent on snowmelt, river systems, and aquifers. The review highlights the challenges of water scarcity, quality degradation, and flood risks posed by climate change. Furthermore, the article discusses potential mitigation and adaptation strategies, including water management practices, policy interventions, and technological innovations, to address the anticipated water crises in the coming decades.
